Our Review:

AdultSingles.com has something of a multiple personality disorder in that it appears to be part adult dating site, part romantic relationship site. It’s clunky, slightly ugly and lacks any style, but you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. However, despite having some decent features the membership base is a little too small and lacks in terms of online activity.

It’s free to join AdultSingles.com and you’ll just need a valid email address to complete your application. Once signed up you’re free to take a look around and check out the site. In addition to creating a profile, you do get slightly more than a lot of other sites with reference to communication. Free members can send a limited number of virtual gifts (5) to other members, send friend invitations, ‘wink’ at other members (an automated icebreaker sent to express your interest in another member). You can even send an introductory letter to 200 members to get yourself noticed and there’s a chat room for free members to meet. However, it’s largely empty and pretty much a waste of your time.

If you want to get the most from the site and increase your chances of finding a date you’ll have to upgrade. However, the membership base raises the question of whether it’s worth making a commitment here. AdultSingles.com features members from across the globe. At the time of this review there were 5,500,347 members with 220,826 members registered in the USA. However, the majority are from Eastern Europe. Despite this, there were just 939 online and 170 in the chat rooms. Another reason for thinking twice about joining is that we would think that, if you’re reading this, you’re looking for adult dating, rather than mainstream dating. The ethos of the site seems geared more toward romantic relationships than casual encounters and there’s no nudity on the site, so that's something else to consider.

If you do upgrade there are a couple of options, both of which can be trialled for a nominal fee. Silver membership is slightly less expensive and you can save if you join for the longer term. As a Silver member you can upload up to 20 profile photos, send SMS messages, receive and read email messages, send and receive winks, use the video chat feature and get notifications of compatible matches via email. Meanwhile, Gold members also get open email access, a highlighted profile, invisible mode (allowing you to browse the site but not be seen by other members), free compatibility test to match you with other members and you also get to check out who’s viewed your profile. If you only speak English do bear in mind that a lot of the live chat rooms are non-English speaking (e.g. Lithuanian, Russian, Latvian and Estonian are common). You’re also limited to a basic search (I am, seeking, age range, location, relationship sought, religion). You can also find some one-click tab searches (e.g. who’s online now) but there’s no advanced search.

There’s also a totally unnecessary and unscrupulous money-grabbing feature whereby you can purchase credits and spend them on becoming the top featured member and access photo albums (costing 100 credits-around $2.00). So just be aware that your monthly subscription won’t cover everything. You won’t find a FAQs section on the site but there’s email support if you have any questions (priority response for Silver and Gold members).

AdultSingles.com has all the features you’d need from a dating site, including some original ones, but is difficult to navigate and has a lack of active members. Because of this you might be scraping around for a date here, so best advice is to hang on to your credit card and try some of the other sites in this category.
